Now that MS Edge (stable) is available on Linux, will you use it?

Microsoft Edge uses Chromium as its engine, so of the big-name browsers, there are only three engines now: Chromium (Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, and of course Chromium itself); Apple's Safari; and Mozilla's Firefox.

Microsoft has now made its stable version of Edge available to Linux, although MS hasn't announced it officially.

Personally, I am happy with Chrome, and have no reason to change. But that's just me.

I very much doubt that I will; I see no good reason to do so, already having chromium and Firefox installed, the latter of which I use most.

Discussions of this have been already posted many times in this forum, so it's worth searching for the threads which I find difficult on a small Android screen.

Nope!

I use a chromebook regularly, so syncing bookmarks between that and Ubuntu as well as mobile devices means Chrome is my choice. Although I also use Firefox in Ubuntu. It will be interesting to see if there are those who use both Windows and Ubuntu who will find Edge on Linux convenient for the same reason I go for Chrome.

I use MS Edge Dev - as my default browser in fact - but I am at a later build level:

There was a curious bug a few weeks ago that they fixed fairly quickly in the dev channel. No reason I can't use both I suppose.

Thanks for the links. They're all old, and to do with the development version rather than the stable version. Now that it's stable, I was wondering if many would use it on Linux.

I suspect that those who have been using it on Windows would be happy to be able to.

I might install it out of curiosity. But then again I might not. It has been such a long time that I used a Microsoft browser that I cannot remember the name of the thing.

I think we can agree that the original MS browser had a reputation for insecurity and lack of privacy protection that stayed with it through each upgrade of the OS. It makes sense for MS to start anew. It makes even better sense to use proven open source technology. If Edge becomes the default browser in Windows then surely the World Wide Web will become a little bit safer for everybody.

Edge is the default browser in Windows. Microsoft has been pushing it hard. If you don't use it as the default browser, Windows reminds you every so often.

I tried it when on beta. I liked it once I figured out how to remove bing and the home page junk. I obviously use it on my Windows store, but now I'm using either Firefox and/or Chrome. I'll stick with those on Linux.

I feel that it makes sense to stick to just one browser. I use Chrome everywhere, so that it automatically synchronises my extensions, bookmarks, etc. If you use Edge on Windows, you might as well use it on Linux as well for the same reason.

Nope. Vivaldi is my browser of choice and has been for some time - works everywhere. PACKED with features, based on Chrome but without the Chrome baggage., automatic translation, split screen, tab stacking. The list goes on and on....
