    automatic upgrades question re: reboot

    Hi Forum:

I've set up automatic upgrades for my system.

As a part of this there is an option to reboot.

I wondered what happens when my computer automatically reboots.

Does it sign me automatically into my account?

Or, does it just hang there and wait for me to log myself it?

It is important for me to know this: my computer is a server.... and needs to be operational as much as possible.

What's your advice? Should I not choose automatic upgrades and just do it manually?

    Thanks,

It'll reboot into however it is normally setup to reboot into.
If it's setup to require you to login, then that's what it will do.

Have you considered Ubuntu Livepatch service? It is said to be free for personal use for up to 3 machines. I do not know if it applies to you but it will patch the kernel while the system runs. In this way a reboot is not required.

This is a bad idea. I hope you don't learn why the same way that I learned, with a system that wouldn't boot.
Just set a reminder to run a patch script in your calendar weekly and be done.
