    Ubuntu version names

Hey guys. It's been a long time since I've used Ubuntu. Just wondering...do they still use animal names for the unofficial version names like they used to a long time ago? I think I started using Ubuntu around the Hoary Hedgehog version. I missed out on Warty Warthog.

do they still use animal names
Yes they do. Mr Shuttleworth chooses the name of each release. I never could remember the names so I prefer the numbered release identifiers.

    Re: Ubuntu version names

It's not always Mark Shuttleworth that chooses the name (so I've heard on a Ubuntu Podcast; thinking of Wimpy talking about Groovy Gorilla from memory), but Mr Shuttleworth does say yes at the very least to the name.

Myself, I tend to remember the codename used as I type it so often in docs etc, also I'm on the development release cycle which may help, but I suspect end-users not involved in testing or the release cycle won't use it much (discussions earlier today I was involved with related to wallpapers/artwork on impish for example).

We don't know the next jj release yet; the current development release impish indri is getting late in it's cycle, and about release time we'll discover the jj name.

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BreezyBadger or 5.10

though I usually find https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases the most useful.

Note: I had to look that up! The first Ubuntu I used was 10.10 I believe; and I didn't decide I liked Ubuntu until 11.04 (natty or the earliest name I actually remember). I discovered the shorter non-LTS lives when I didn't like 11.10 & returned to 11.04 which somewhat soon reached it's EOL . Then I finally learnt about LTS with 12.04 & the choice of using earlier 10.04 LTS (with GNOME 2 ).

I started on 8.04. I don't think I'll ever forget the default wallpaper either.

Now I'm on 18.04 (and looking to eventually upgrade to 20.04)
