Use of VPN in our Brave New World

Working remote seems like a good thing. I am new to it albeit it seems lots of developers are already doing it. I have been giving all the network, username, and password information and I am told that I can "HTML5 VPN Portal (any browser)" ... whatever that means. Please tell me whatever that means !! How is this done? So far all I know abou8t VPN is that it is a bit of software I can use to mask my location. Apparently it has more than one meeting.

Seems the forum software here is still broken. I'll try splitting my reply up.
Wikipedia provides explanations for what a VPN is.

    That's part 1.

    Part 2

VPNs that only use usernames and passwords are not very secure.
SSL-based VPNs aren't usually secure against state-level monitoring, unless they use TLS 1.3. Earlier versions, including all SSL, have all been cracked.

    Part 3

Security professionals suggest using IPSec-based VPNs with 2FA. IPSec is part of the IPv6 standard and has been available and working for over 15 yrs. Android and iOS clients have native support for IPSec VPNs.

    Part 4
There are three main uses for a VPN. Connect from
    • home to work.
    • home to somewhere else to hide your true location and data transfers from your ISP and perhaps others.
    • while away to your home network.

    end of posts.

I had to edit this one in dumb ways to get the forum software to accept it.
