What does this mean? I hope it just means my disc drive that's playing my live DVD is just struggling as has been indicated already with other hardware issues.

I was just transferring files from my phone to the hdd on the laptop directly connected to the laptop via USB.

Doing an online search for the kernel panic error will give you a large number of results. Doing an online search for: kernel offset: disabled will give you some sites similar to the one below. Try the options suggested there. Do you have a separate boot partition or is it on the / (root filesystem) partition. Copying files from your phone should not give you this error unless you have filled the partition.

I am running off a live disc so I didn't make any separate partitions.

This just happened once so maybe it won't happen again.
