Repairing Windows BCD file with live Ubuntu

    Hello,

I have a Samsung DP700A3D all-in-one PC with Windows 10 OS. I am trying to repair it using an installation disc, but not able to boot it from USB. I am getting this error code "0xc000000f" with message "BCD file missing". When I try to boot it from USB, it is stuck at Samsung logo with spinning dots.

I am able to boot into live Ubuntu and selected try Ubuntu without installation. After that, I installed disk-repair tool and tried the option "Repair Windows boot files". Once it is finished, I tied to boot Windows but still facing the same issue.

I am still not sure about using disk-repair from live Ubuntu will fix my missing BCD file issue. Am I doing right ? And if you have any other suggestions please help me out.

    Thank you for your time.

It is generally accepted that Windows 10 tools should be used to repair Windows 10 systems.

Possibly, you have a damaged Windows Installation media.

I suggest that you download the current Windows 10 ISO and prepare another USB device.

Hi, Thank you for your reply, I verified Windows USB media by booting a different PC and able to do it. But the same media is not working with my Samsung PC.

Any computer less than 10-12 years old should be able to boot from a usb. Have you booted from a usb on the Samsung previously? Have you tried different usb port to boot from?

Hi, I never tried booting from USB before on this Samsung system. I tried all available USB ports.

In your original post, you mentioned
I am able to boot into live Ubuntu and selected try Ubuntu without installation
Have you tried creating another USB stick with Windows 10?
    Use a different thumb drive
Use alternative software to prepare the media.
