    While testing other file managers, I suggest you try thunar (the Xubuntu default manager). It won't pull in too many new libraries. I'm happy with it. I tend to prefer the file layout in the attached screenshot (compact list) - one that nautilus is unable to do.

    When I first read this thread, I wondered if thunar file manager was capable of displaying a tree view. Yes, it does.
