Allan Carvalho announces a proposal to hold a unified Ubucon America, listing five objectives of the event. The date is still to be set, but is hoped to be June or July.

Call for Participation: GPG Key Experts and People Who Need Help Signing the CoC
Monica Ayhens-Madon makes a call for participation in a "live streamed event GPG key workshop in the next week or two" to help people in that hurdle in applying for Ubuntu membership. Madhens is looking for volunteers who can help others in setting up their GPG keys, and people who want help setting up a GPG key to sign the Ubuntu CoC. You don't need to be on camera; voice only is fine.

Elizabeth Krumbach Joseph updates us on her last year working with IBM Z, digging into z/OS and Z/VM, which has made her appreciate how powerful these OSes are, power which Linux can utilize. Elizabeth expresses excitement at the release of Ubuntu 21.04, with its updated kernel and focus on virtualization and containers which can be utilized by IBM Z and LinuxOne. We are also shown Elizabeth's latest Hirsute Hippo pink 'plushy'.

Plasma 5.22 Beta (5.21.90) available for testing
If you're using Kubuntu 21.04 or the development 21.10 release, this post tells you how to add a Beta PPA to use Plasma 5.21.90 (Plasma 5.22 beta). Testing is very important, but, you are warned that it's beta software, thus problems could be encountered, and thus are told where to file bugs if found, or where devs hang out on IRC if you have questions.

KDE Frameworks 5.82 Released with More Than 200 Changes
Marius Nestor reports of the monthly update for the Qt libraries that provide the KDE functionality. Marius notes a number of changes and improvements and several fixes. A link is given to the full changelog with the advice to update as soon as KDE Frameworks 5.82 lands in the software repository.

NVIDIA 460.80 Linux Driver Released With New Laptop GPU Support, Bug Fixes
Michael Larabel reports that the support for a number of GPUs under the 465 version driver have been backported to the long-term 460 series driver branch. Also noted, in addition to the NVIDIA Ampere laptop GPU support, are several bug fixes. Michael provides a link for the download and the full list of changes.

You Can Now Upgrade Ubuntu 20.10 to Ubuntu 21.04, Here’s How
Marius Nestor reports that the upgrade path is now open and provides a tutorial to upgrade installations. Marius advises that an updated shim version has been released that was blocking the upgrade.

Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute Hippo) Gets Its First Kernel Security Patch, Update Now
Marius Nestor gives details on CVE-2021-3489, CVE-2021-3490, and CVE-2021-3491 impacting Ubuntu 21.04. Also discussed is the workaround for the CAN ISOTP protocol implementation's race condition. Update instructions are provided with the advice to update kernel packages as soon as possible to the new versions (linux-image 5.11.0-17.18 for 64-bit).

Ubuntu Touch OTA-17 Released for Ubuntu Phones with NFC Support, Many Improvements

KDE Plasma 5.22 Beta Released with Stability and Usability Improvements
Marius Nestor gives a glowing report of the stability, usability improvements, performance improvements, and big changes in the KDE Plasma 5.22 Beta release. However, Marius admonishes "this is still a pre-release version, so don’t use in for any production work". The final release is on June 8th, 2021.
