I see our aging WRTGL router is still available for $40 - it had the advantage of me being able to
talk to it via my Linux box.
The WRT54GL is about ten generations behind. There have been many improvements in speed, security, etc. since this dinosaur was released in 2005. I say this as an owner of a WRT54 in my junk pile/museum.
Most obvious is that the WRT54GL is limited to 802.11G speeds, that is, 54 Mbps and the somewhat congested 2.4 gHz band.
Almost every router can talk to our Linux and Mac machines through the browser interface.
