    Solved Thread Marker

    Folks,

Been an Ubuntu (and other distros) user for a number of years and have posted numerous questions on this forum.

Seldom actually used the Solved thread tool option and just want to clarify something.

Is it merely a marker to show a posted problem has a remedy or are there some extra search criteria that is actually added to it?

    Geoff

Thread moved to Forum Feedback & Help.

It's merely a marker to show a posted problem has a remedy.

I think it's just a marker. It can help people looking for solutions if they have the same problem, and indicates your'e not looking for help on that question any more.

    Yeah, what the others said.

However, spammers sometimes mark their spam threads with the solved tag. Exactly what is going through what passes for their minuscule minds to do that I have no idea. All they achieve is to add a waving, pulsating, flashing red flag to their posts, easily recognised by forum staff. As all forum staff in every forum everywhere know only too well: spammers are complete and utter morons.

So... if you see an unanswered thread (one with only one post) with a solved tag, and which consists of a question that doesn't appear to belong here, or is a bit off, or is recognisably copy-pasted from somewhere else, please report it as possible spam or proto-spam. (Proto-spam is a seemingly innocent post that the spammer puts up as a smokescreen, and then comes back later to add their spam link or replace the text with overt advertising.)
