How do you install Google Earth

I want to install it but there are problems. Websites say Ubuntu does not have the required 64 bit lib package, it only has the 32 bit package. The 32 bit will not work with the 64 bit version of Google Earth which is all that is listed on the GE web site. I installed the 64 bit GE with the 32 bit lib package and it works for a short time and then freezes up.
So, who has the secret instructions?

Never heard of such problem. Always installed the available deb in 64-bit system and it just worked.
Freezing is most likely related to insufficient hardware, namely graphics.

There used to be a problem that the 64 bit GE didn't work on 64 bit Ubuntu, so you had to install the 32 bit version. That's years ago, but instructions from that time may still be found on the web. Nowadays both GE and Ubuntu are only available in 64 bit and it works – on my box at least. And that's a 10 year old laptop, so nothing fancy.
