DEll XPS 9700 Freeze (Ubuntu???)

I have a 2 month old Dell XPS that is 100% Mint 20.1. It has a freezing problem which seems to be common. I also had a problem with no audio which was solved by locking in kernel 5.6 - maybe forever.

Does anyone out there have similar solved problems? Does anyone specifically have a Dell XPS with Ubuntu (maybe directly from Dell) that is using a newer kernel and has no audio issue?

I am also unable to update the bios following the suggestions on line. No option to flash the bios comes up. This is not so important as the other two issues

On Ubuntu since 8.04. Now 100% Ubuntu 20.1 replacing the W10 that the laptop came with.

Experiencing freeze at odd times. Only solution seems to to to power down completely and start over. Dell is no help. but freeze seems to be a common problem. Bios is latest. Ideas?
