no mouse/keyboard after upgrade to 18.05

hi i am very very new to ubuntu so please make answers very clear

no mouse/keyboard at login screen so can not get into the system

external mouse/keyboard do not work

keyboard does initially work so using esc then shift i can get to


gnu grub version 2.02

advance options for ubuntu
system set up

i did try adding /bin/bash/ to a command line, not sure if i did it correctly

Was this a 16.04 to 18.04 upgrade and did you backup your files before starting ?
