Wifi trouble on all debian distro's, not on arch distro's - helping a friend

Hi! The weirdest thing. My friend cannot get his wifi connected on debian distro's. On arch distro's he can.

So on all distro's he sees his home network wifi but only on arch versions his laptop actually connects with his wifi. We can't figure out why, can you help?

His laptop is a HP EliteBook 8770w Mobile Workstation with a Intel 82579LM/82579V ethernet network connection

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Mikey and Wes

You may need the "non-free" installer.

What is the output when you put into a Terminal
    Code:
    lspci |grep Network
    ?
