    Thousands... Nothing happens instantly and many programmers never test their programs with very large numbers of files.

    I have never used Shotwell, but my guess is that you set the program up to import vast numbers of files, then turn the system off, or quit the program while it is actually still busy in the background. It is also possible that Shotwell cannot import thousands of files in a single batch and terminates due to an overflow event and that you need to limit it to a hundred or so at a time.

    Did you import the pictures in place or copied them to another location? For example, if you imported pictures in an external hard drive, they will disappear if the hard drive is not connected.

    but they are local.
    at the end i tried to import only one third and then i imported all of them again at once and now it is pretty amazing. everything works.

    Explain what you are looking for .. what type of management?
    Intuitively I would use Shotwell on smaller batches of images.
    i.e. do some front end filtering before applying Shotwell.
    You need to develop a workflow I suggest.

    Re: photos are disappearing in Shotwell

    i just need a simple program to organize and delete unneeded files (images and videos)
    but i have many many tho {14,000 files}
    i downloaded all my google photos and videos...

    i've tried digikam but i will give it another try after the first try wasn't successful if i remember correctly

    i hope the shotwell creators find the bug soon...
