    16.04 Software updater problem

Running 16.14. Thunderbird has been having issues with send function hanging up. I decided to sudo apt-get upgrade in terminal. Keep getting long delays and no response:

    joe@joe-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get update

    Hit:4 http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb stable InRelease

Terminal has been stalled on this for a few minutes.

Any ideas what I should try next?

I just updated/upgraded my 16.04 install yesterday and didn't notice any unusual delays. Are you doing this over wifi? If so, how's your signal strength/other aps on your channel (sudo iwlist scan)?

    Re: 16.04 Software updater problem

I had read that IP V6 was causing issues in another site. On a whim, I just disabled IP V6.

    sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1
    sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6=1
    sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6=1

Confirmed it by running ip a

Thunderbird started completing pings for new messages instantly. Also, software updater is now working without issue.

    Hmmmm..............
