    Ubuntu 20.04 Upgrade DKMS Errors on system76 acpi

    This question is from my system76 Galago UltraPro which I tried to upgrade from 18.04.1.

    During the upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04.1 to 20.04.1 I received multiple errors referring to system76 modules that encountered errors. Now when I boot the system it appears to load, however my display remains blank/black. The only procedure that gets to the login screen is to boot into GRUB then select Advanced followed by Recovery Mode. I can then resume normal boot and get to the login screen. I found the following in the system log. it shows multiple DKMS errors.

    I tried searching through the forums and other places, plus reinstalling the generic 5.8.0-7625 kernel using Synaptic Package Manager, with no success.

    Here is a snip from Syslog:

    Code:

    Hello.

    Please use code tags to encapsulate terminal commands and their results.

    1. If you are using the "Reply to Thread" button - highlight text and use the # button in the text box header. Alternatively, click the # button first, place your cursor between the code tags and type or paste your text.

    2. If using "Quick Reply" then type [code] at the beginning and [/code] at the end. The square brackets are required.

    Is this Pop_OS! by chance?

    Thanks QIII for the posting guidance. I went to read the Forum Posting Guidelines as a reminder.

    As for the problem, this is straight Ubuntu, not Pop_OS.

    Re: Ubuntu 20.04 Upgrade DKMS Errors on system76 acpi

    I'm having the same error, and I'm on a System76 machine running straight Ubuntu. Very interested in a solution. My additional monitors were working normally 2 days ago; today they're not detected. I've tried several solutions from other threads without any success, including:

    * Disabling secure boot
    * Reinstalling nvidia drivers from the terminal
    * Reinstalling nvidia drivers from their website
    * Reinstalling nvidia drivers from the Ubuntu Software & Updates app
    * Removing options nvidia-drm modeset=1 from the prime-select configuration

    No matter what I do, my monitors are still not detected in settings, nor do they display anything. When I run nvidia-settings, I receive the following output:

    Code:
    ERROR: NVIDIA driver is not loaded

    ERROR: Unable to load info from any available system
