Do I defeat the lightness of LXQT by running mainly GTK based apps?

After "some trouble" upgrading from 18, I'm on Lubuntu 20 on my aging (read: slow and small memory by 2020 standards) machine. Which is running LXQT. Everything is working "OK".

Then I started reading about XUbuntu, running XFCE, which is based on GTK.

And I started wondering. If I'm running Gimp, Gramps, Inkscape as "key apps" for my usage, am I loading in all the GTK stuff that LXQT is trying to avoid, and defeating the purpose?

So perhaps XFCE would make sense.

Or am I over thinking this?

Depends on your "purpose". For me, it is a matter of installing softwares I need, as long as the base OS does what I need and stays out of the way.

Not at all. You can use a light desktop so that your applications have more resources to use. I prefer this myself. IMHO the underlying OS SHOULD be light and use the least resources possible. I want to give resources to the applications I want to use. It's why I use OpenBox and have the OS as stripped back as possible.
