    Huawei Matebook D (AMD) Ryzen 2500u Random Freezes

    There's an issue plaguing many if not all of us using the huawei matebook d (AMD) running on Ryzen 2500u. My system has been randomly freeze with no apparent pattern. I could be doing anything from just browsing, the web, developing, or working.

    I'm a huge linux fan boy and would love to be using ubuntu as my primary system. However, after upgrading to 20.10 and to my disappointment still being plagued by this issue on the 5.8 kernel, I think my only option at this point is to switch back to windows completely.

    I found one suggested change to the grub file and tried that to no avail. I'm on the latest bios, and everything is up to date. I also don't see anything strange in /var/crash. I have system monitor running and I see no spikes. I have noticed that if I'm watching a video 1-2 seconds of audio will continually loop(sounds awful).

    Please let me know what additional information I can provide. I desperately don't want to switch back to Windows. This could possibly be issue at the kernel level as other users have said this happens on several distros

    what changes did you do to grub? iommu= soft?
    Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
    Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?

    Yep! I at some point also tried
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash iommu=soft"

    I did also try adding this at one point and that didn't work either

    processor.max_cstate=1

    from your description it is really hard to say what is causing the issues.

    check logs in /var. not crash but all. use log viewer as it is easier that way. see if there are any error messages. if you already have issues on boot check dmesg and also the old one from previous boot.

    if you use Ubuntu have you tried using xorg instead of wayland?

    my kid uses 3500U and it works fine. much better than expected, actually.
