System76 Galaga pro - no usb boot?

My brand new laptop froze during update.

got an Ubuntu recovery usb stick from Amazon.

    System76 support says no problem.

Press the ESC key on splash screen and use Boot one time.

the menu that open has 4 options none of them use the usb.

    please help.

    Wasted money.

You can use any USB stick of at least 4GB and make your own.
We don't know exactly what you have and even if it's capable of booting in the mode you need.

How old is your computer? This is to determine whether it has BIOS or UEFI. Only more recent System76 computer use an actual UEFI unlike the rest of the industry where UEFI is the standard for almost a decade.

It was manufactured in March of this year.

system76 says it must be a bad usb stick.

the only computer I can use is the library’s so I have to buy one already created on Amazon.

The public library computer shows a fully functional usb stick.

Try booting while pushing the appropriate key to get the BIOS. Then go to the part where you pick the boot order. Make the USB the first choice, then the computer SSD or HHD as the second choice. You can insert as the 2nd choice a CDROM drive, in case you have a live CD or DVD and an external Optical Drive.
After making the BIOS change Save and Exit (usually F10). Then restart the computer with the your Live Flash Drive inserted in the USB port, and push the F10 or F12 key or what ever your computer uses for the boot choice. When the boot list appears select the USB Drive which should be the top choice.
Using POP!_OS 20.04, which is basically Ubuntu 20.04 with some help from System76.
