I post this here as I haven't found a solution. I installed Ubuntu 20.10 (Groovy Gorilla) with Gnome 3.38.1 on one of my machine when it was in Alpha. Almost everything has been fine and usually when there is something then it is already a listed bug. However, there is one issue that annoys me. When I click on "show application" icon then the applications are not sorted. When I had installed Ubuntu then when I had installed an application it would come at the back but by logging out/in it would be listed as expected. Then after probably installing 10 applications this no longer worked and now they just stay at the back of the listing. I am not sure if it is a bug or just something on my machine. I haven't come across this type of problem in my 10 years of using Ubuntu so I am not really sure where to look. I would appreciate any advice or pointing me in the right direction.
I would make a bug report. Open a terminal and make the command ubuntu-bug dash I have installed about 20 applications with different methods and the Dash is sorted OK, However I think I never installed more than three before I rebooted or logged out and got the applications sorted in the correct way.
