Problem with password after new install

HI Guys,

I've just installed 20.04 on a test system and I've come across a problem with login.

On set up I opted to auto login and when I came to do some updates I was asked for the password. The problem arose because it would not accept the password I KNEW was right.

I thought 'blow it' it's only a test system, I'll re-install. Same problem

I've done some investigations and I think I know what is 'wrong'. I'm in the UK, my keyboard is standard UK. The system appears to have recorded my password as if I'm using a US keyboard.

e.g. my password included a # and it appears that the system recorded it as \

Have I missed something during set up? or is this a feature?

And what was the keyboard layout used in the live system when you did the installation?

I have no idea.

I inserted the USB stick and chose install from the graphic menu (righthand icon). I didn't investigate the live system at all.

I don't remember the option to select the keyboard layout until the install began.

Does this mean you need to configure the graphical interface for your non-US keyboard layout BEFORE starting an install?
