I want to know why I'm getting a no system tray error when I open the HP printer GUI?

I am not getting the error on booting up my system, because in the course of managing to install I saw that problem and commented out the line to start the system tray in its configuration file.

The HP GUI put a shortcut button in my dock. When I click on it it shows all the options, print, scan, etc. I closed it, and the error about no system tray came up. I re-opened it and printed a test page, which printed without a problem.

Why does this error occur? It seems to be a known bug with HP printer software, so surely why it occurs is known by now? What system tray are they referring to? Does the bug actually interfere with function? I ended up with this printer installed four different ways, and it seems to work.
