B/N key stop keyboard working

Hi all, I hope I am posting this in the right place.

I have recently swapped over to Linux as I was having issues with my keyboard not working in Windows. After the swap the keyboard worked perfectly fine on my hp laptop (model 15-p215AX). After a couple of days it spat the dummy and I freshly reinstalled ubunto 20.04 and issue persisted.

Every now and then I can hit the b or n key and it works fine but most of the time once I hit those keys everything else stops. If I reset my laptop it works again minus those keys or sometimes I just carry on and the keyboard will start working again (minus those keys again).

I thought it may be a heat issue so I pulled everything apart and replaced my thermal paste but have since tested it happens from cold start up.

I can't figure out if this is a hardware or software issue, had anyone done across this before?

That sounds entirely like a hardware issue. Something stuck under the keys, or a cheapie membrane keyboard no longer making contact, or a dodgy internal connection.
