When I went to university, they told me: ‘We don't use Windows here. It doesn't meet our requirements. Get used to it.’ That's when I moved away from Windows. I never looked back. It's not unlikely your university professors use Ubuntu too.

Was this in the U.S.? I'd be surprised. I'm under the impression that Microsoft Office document formats are required, not optional at most U.S. schools.

No, in the Netherlands.

So Universities in the Netherlands teach IT skills, not Microsoft skills. I think the former will result in a more rounded education.
