    ubuntu server vs ubuntu desktop?

Hi can some one give my little support, what is difference with desktop vs server?
I have i tryed them both i find out that server its more terminal based and more hard with hardware charging its more hard to charge networkscard and get it works out the box did not know why?

I have hope that someone tell me why its shuld be more hard?

Because windows server 2020 vs windows 10 its not so much difference on the hardware charges. Its only linced that can be cost if its changed much.

Re: ubuntu server vs ubuntu desktop?

    desktop has a GUI.
    server doesn't have a GUI.

desktop loads common desktop applications during the install.
server doesn't load any desktop applications and should only load the specific server packages requested from the install menu beyond the base OS.

After the fact, you can load desktop applications on the server install
    OR
you can load server applications on a desktop install.
In general, desktops have many more problems with drivers, especially GPUs, so having a GUI installed on a real server is asking for a failure much quicker.

The server install doesn't include all the same drivers as a desktop. For example, drivers for wifi and USB network devices aren't included in a server install. Servers need to use a wired, ethernet, connection, not wifi. Servers need to have static network addresses. Servers are managed by professionals, not end-users.

Windows servers crash much more often than Unix servers. That's an unfortunate comparison you are trying to make. The longest I've had a Windows system stay up was about 3 months. The longest I've had Linux servers stay up is well over a year - back in 2000, had one up almost 2 yrs and is would still be running today if I didn't need to replace the OS.

Sorry, I didn't understand all that was written.

Just to add, if you are complaining about a network card being recognized on install or not, there are rare cases where the OS by default doesn't have a driver for the specific network card. Again, as TheFu said, we are talking about wired connections. I don't enter into discussion of using wifi/usb cards for servers.

So talking about wired connections, in most cases the card should be recognized and it would be no problem to configure it during install.

If you wanted to say that the card is recognized but you find difficulties using the server installer to configure it, that is different subject.

If you want your network to work, install desktop.

If you want your network to work erratically, then install server

Show us the output of the command "lspci | grep Ethernet". On my Dell T30 server that returns:
    Code:
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection I217-V (rev 05)
That's the adapter on my motherboard. Intel adapters are well-supported because Intel itself writes the drivers and submits them to be included in the Linux kernel.
