    Tholian web

I set the Settings login to login without the use of the password. Now, when Ubuntu starts, it asks for a password. I type my old password and that doesn't work, then I type nothing and hit Enter and that only returns me to the login screen.

I can't get by this problem to get to Settings to again require a password to login.

    Suggestions? Thanks!

Please use a password for login, that's all.

There's a page in the community wiki with the procedure to reset a lost password. There's also a page on using the LiveCd / LiveUSB you created for installation to do various system recovery tasks, including password resetting.

@CelticWarrior. Thanks for your reply. My question is, what password?

Your user's password that you defined during the installation.
Always use a password for login. Even Windows has been trying to force that habit into users in an attempt to correct decades of bad practices. Well, better later than never.

    Re: Tholian web

@Celtic -- That's the problem outlined in the original post. I set the system to start without the need to enter a password. The option is given in the Settings. I took advantage of that setting. However, when the time for login comes on startup, the system DOES NOT open.

When I enter my password, nothing happens, and the login screen returns to ask for a password.

    Obviously a bug.

The purpose of the post was to ask how to get around this without having to reinstall the OS.

And just another point here -- if Ubuntu wants users to require a password for login because it is good practice, why does it offer the option to set logging in without password?

Especially when the option is selected, it doesn't work.
