run i3wm next to Ubuntu 18.04 GNOME 3 desktop manager

Hi all!

Is it possible to run i3wm desktop manager next to GNOME 3 desktop manager for ubuntu 18.04?
For example i would like to run i3wm as my standard desktop manager (the one that the system boots with) and have the ability to exit i3wm and use GNOME 3 desktop manager and vice versa.

i3wm is for work related stuff where i would like the system to startup with some specific windows for Firefox, development, server connections and such.
GNOME 3 is more for casual browsing the web, system / other.

Yes. Install i3. then on login, you can choose i3 using the cog wheel.
