18.04 'Make Startup Disk' for 20.04, Disk to use issue

    Hi All,

Trying to make a DVD of 20.04 using 'Make Startup Disk' on 18.04. The .iso shows fine, but the 'Disk to use:' area is giving me problems. When writing to USB it works fine, but when trying to make a DVD it does not show anything and therefore the 'Make Startup Disk' stays grayed.

I know the optical disk drive works because I have used it recently AND when I insert a Blank DVD it shows up on my desktop as Blank DVD-R Disc (I've tried both +R and -R with the same result).

Finally, I need the DVD because the laptop I am trying to install Ubuntu on is not detecting the Live USB (from what I read it needs to be set to legacy, but it's a Sony Vaio and the Bios options are limited.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am not sure if you can create a bootable DVD with that program. I have always used XFBurn to create bootable DVD's. It is installed in Xubuntu and Lubuntu by default. It is very tiny program and I have never had a bad burn using it. In any event, it is in the repositories.

And I use Brasero, which is standard on the MATE 18.04 distro. (in Sound & Video menu)

    Hi All,

Thanks for the responses. Xfburn did the trick.
