How to swich input method using SCIM

I have installed scim (and its dependencies) as well as scim-tables-additional (which has the input method that I want to use). A keyboard icon shows up in the notification area and I can access SCIM setup. However
    • Ctrl+Space shortcut does not work
    • I cannot figure out how to switch between input methods.

GTK_IM_MODULE is set as scim-bridge. Please advise...

SCIM truly belongs to the stone age. Probably OK if you consider yourself an archaeologist.
