    Exclamation Gmail - Google

Email this morning from Google - will no longer support Ubuntu and Gnome Evolution:

    Hello,
Beginning July 8, 2020, the following apps will no longer have access to your Gmail data:
    Ubuntu
    GNOME Evolution
Google has always worked to design our tools and services with security at their core. Last year, we proactively updated the Google User Data Policy to better protect Gmail users.
All apps listed above have not passed our required verification process and, as a result, will no longer be able to access your Gmail data starting July 8, 2020.
Without access to your Gmail data, these apps may not work as intended. If you have any questions, please contact the developer of the apps.
You can also use the Security Checkup tool to view, manage, and remove any apps that you have given access to your Google Account.
    Thanks,
    The Google Accounts team

    Re: Gmail - Google

I would not click on any links in a email.
    Possible phishing?

I have google & did not get message.

And Ubuntu does not access Google Mail. I use on line with Firefox or thru Thunderbird.

I access Gmail via Thunderbird. +1 Phishing

The links in the initial post appear live. If it is suspected to be phishing or malware perhaps they should be killed?

The live links in the OP are google.com ones and lead to genuine google pages. I rather doubt that Google has taken up phishing!

    Re: Gmail - Google

I use Lubuntu, so I wouldn't know, but does Ubuntu have some sort of tie-in with Google pushing notifications, perhaps through Gnome itself a Gnome extension?

It looks like a legit message and the above would be my immediate guess. One would have perhaps installed an extension and then done the whole authentication that apps can do to sync with Google.

    Re: Gmail - Google

How did the app named google pass Google's data protection policy?

This is an organisation that has not been slow to profit from users data.
