All of them, in one way (native) or another (emulated).

Dota 2 and CS:GO have native clients. Hearthstone, StarCraft may work using WINE and DXVK (blizzard games tend to fair well against WINE-staging). HotS didn't run last time I tried, but it used to. Blizzard's Linux support is a labor of love, and HotS has a skeleton crew running it, so WINE performance is likely to not be good. Overwatch may work with WINE.

Riot just recently stopped banning people for playing in Qemu, but the game (League of Legends) is wholly and utterly unplayable in WINE. I've heard people getting it to work with Lutris but... at the penalty of potentially running sketchy scripts.

The rest I've never tried or looked into. Let me know if you have any success.

    That's awesome news!

So I guess if the Ubuntu community helps more people start using Ubuntu. Then perhaps the rest of the eSport games will follow suite and create native clients like Dota2 and CS:GO companies have done.

Fortnite - game engine runs on linux, but the game can't run due to anticheat being made only for windows. same goes for ApexLegends which uses modified source engine that is native to linux, but they decided to add windows only anticheat.

these days it seems that often what is preventing multiplayer games running on linux is the badly made anticheat systems or launchers rather than the games themselves. this is kind of sad.

just this week Doom eternal (which worked perfectly on linux) got a windows only anticheat (not sure why). so it doesn't work on linux anymore. i would prefer if users had the option to setup their own server (at home). and if they want to cheat there with their friends, let them.
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?
Full disk backup (newer kernel -> suitable for newer PC): Clonezilla
User friendly full disk backup: Rescuezilla

That sounds bad. Do you think if Ubuntu community did some sort of Patreon/Kickstarter campaign, would those anticheat systems companies be willing or have the skills to create equal systems for Linux?

you would need to ask those that make anticheat. but i don't think they care about a few thousand users trying to get their game going on linux. it's much more worthwhile for them to invest into milions of Windows users that run the game and protect them from cheaters. the pressure is just not high enough for them to do the move. even if you had it funded they might not care about doing it.

I would be unsurprised if Valve has approached them sometime since 2014. To my knowledge, Valve bankrolled a lot of the Linux ports on their platform since then.

heh. doom eternal was now reported will have anticheat disabled when on linux. just how they will do this is unkown. as well as if they will disable it only for single player (likely).

i mean they should make a linux port /installer in the first place. doom3 &quake 4 installer still work with minor annoyance of DVD number check.

There will always be games Linux gamers just can't play, but my own Steam library has few in the "Borked" category. There are a pile of games we can play.

And https://www.protondb.com is your best friend.
