    Ubuntu 20.04 - desktop icons gone (i.e. trash, home/files)

I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04. All seemed fine until I changed by desktop background image. Then the trash can and files icons vanished and I cannot bring them back.

Based on searches I've run, I tried purging and reinstalling Nautilus, but that did not help. I also installed Tweaks and tried to add the trash icon that way, but that did not fix it either.

I don't know what changing the background image would have to do with it, but that is when the icons disappeared so I am sharing it in case it's relevant.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you.

I have also changed the background on my system, but did not got icon issue. What haapen when you set back the initial background ?
Glancing at 'journalctl -b' might help knowing about warnings (yellow lines) and errors (red lines)

Thanks for the suggestion Dino. I didn't see any relevant yellow or red notations in journalctl. Seeing as this was a fresh install, I really don't have anything to lose. I'm going to re-install and see what happens.
