[20.04] How to access Cheese preferences UI?

In Xubuntu 18.04, Cheese has a menu bar at the top where I can go Cheese > Preferences.

In Cheese in Xubuntu 20.04, that menu bar is gone.

How to access Cheese's preferences UI in Xubuntu 20.04?

It's in the top-right corner button > Preferences.

I'm not seeing that button? The only button I see in the top right corner is the standard xfwm4 window menu button, and there aren't any Cheese-specific options in that menu.

Maybe you can still access the settings you want with dconf-editor:
    Code:
    dconf-editor /org/gnome/cheese

I don't see it in Xubuntu 20.04 VM, but I don't have a camera, so I don't know if that affects anything.
Just to be sure, you are running Xubuntu/xfce, correct?

I thought of that, and I can indeed access and modify some Cheese settings that way. But I don't know enough about all those settings to know what to modify them to that way.

Since Cheese is a GNOME app, as a test I tried installing GNOME desktop and logging into Ubuntu session. There I get a gear button in the upper right of Cheese, from which I can access the preferences UI.

How to get this gear button to show up in other DE?

(For what it's worth, GNOME System Monitor didn't need any special tweaking to show its equivalent gear button in xfce, it just works out-of-the-box.)

The cheese devs don't seem to care about non-GNOME users.

Thanks for the link Yellow Pasque. Sounds like there is currently no good answer to this problem.

As my primary use for Cheese is webcam testing, is there another similar webcam program available in standard Xubuntu 20.04 repos that is A) more XFCE-friendly than Cheese, and B) also subject to this issue?

There are a few. camorama is in the repos and may suffice.

guvcview is way better than cheese, more featureful (it also does videos), less buggy and doesn't depend on des. It is in the repo.
