    SparkyLinux can't change root password

I'm sure its some program running that won't allow changing root or user password.
I'm trying to shorten my password but get "too short" response.

sudo su -i, insert root password, then type: passwd and change the password. It takes it but on next requiring password, it still has old password.

First time encountered this problem. All Ubuntu flavors allow any password I want.

I'm not familiar with Sparky but if it based on an similar to Ubuntu, there is a minimum number of characters required which is explained at the site below. Scroll down the page to password policy.

No issue with Ubuntu. I put any number of characters and it works. I see Sparky has several post on this subject.
