    16.04 to 18.04 without losing x11vnc ability

    Hi all

I have a box that is not easy accessible and I use x11vnc to manage it.
I'd like to upgrade it but making sure that I don't lose remote connectivity.

In any event even if I need to restore remote access, I need to do all from command line.

One idea I was considering to make change where instead of x11vnc I use standard ubuntu screen share.

But wanted to ping smart people on this forum for ideas.

    Thx

Upgrades between major versions will always, always, loose network connectivity.

I have done major upgrades over ssh a few times, but only when I knew I'd have access the following day.

Regardless, performing a full, know-you-can-restore backup before this operation is NOT optional. It is mandatory, unless you are fine loosing everything.

VNC should never be used remotely without either a full VPN or ssh tunnel used.

    I have both.
That's the question - how to re-enable x11vnc after upgrade reboot only via command line?
