I became a new member of this forum just a few weeks ago when I downloaded Ubuntu Budgie and installed in on my Lenovo ThinkPad X131e. That installation went without a hitch and for quite some time afterwards, I was able to go online for lots of stuff, not limited to package updates, downloads, email, YouTube, etc.
But yesterday my wireless connection went all balky on me. The icons still show I'm connected to the wifi in the house, but I'm rarely getting more than 6 Mbps download (there are occasionally "burps" of connectivity up to 70+ Mbps). Every time I try to load a web page, it times out and I get the screen telling me either the site is too busy or it has moved (yeah, right).
I can assure you that the problem is not with the wifi in the house: our phones are making wi-fi calls and connecting to the internet, so, too, is another laptop running Linux Mint and we're Chromecasting streaming video from Hulu Life without a hiccup.
When I hover the cursor over the wifi icon in the panel, it confirms connected and it shows the brcmsmac driver that I have seen there since the install.
Here's some more info:

I understand that certain Broadcom wireless cards can be real nightmares. I'm puzzled by why this one would've worked just fine and then go cranky on me. Apparently it hasn't crapped out on me...it's still working (or Ubuntu thinks it is). I'm already thinking that another card (maybe Intel) would be at least one answer. I'd just like to see if there are any others.
