    Without an install, you have to do everything manually.

    Did you not see this?
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Displays
    OR:

    1. Place a suitable image in the grub folder.

      • The default location for this folder is /boot/grub.
      • If more than one suitable image resides in the grub folder, the priority for the image used in GRUB 2 is:

        • First image found in /boot/grub
          • The first image found, in this order: jpg, JPG, jpeg, JPEG, png, PNG, tga, TGA
          • If multiple images of the same extension, alphanumerically.

    2. Update GRUB to incorporate the image into the GRUB 2 menu:
    But again without script to update grub, you have to manually add it.

    Re: Bootable USB and Grub2 dual boot

    Good news.
    After a long hard thought i have created a couple of new partitions which i have placed linux, paragon and windows files and then i have them loaded from the efi partition. it all works now.
    I just need one more thing which i can't seem to get working on a USB (in my case external SSD drive).
    How to activate a theme in there? (it is different then with grub on a installed linux drive) so far i could not find anything online about this.
    I want to have the free theme called Vimix for grub2. How?

    I also have that install.sh file in my theme but isn't it different when you put grub2 on a usb instead of the harddrive (actual install of linux)? there lies my problem, how to install it.

    for example if i put GRUB_THEME=/boot/grub/themes/demo/theme.txt in my grub.cfg it doesnt do anything.

    Re: Bootable USB and Grub2 dual boot

    I do not do themes, but have changed color.
    This from my standard install, but similar to what I manually add to grub.cfg.

    Code:
    ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ###
    set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue
    set menu_color_highlight=white/blue
    ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ###
    One of my grub.cfg, actual boot stanza in livecdimage.cfg in /ISO folder.

    Code:
    # grub.cfg
    set default=0
    set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue
    set menu_color_highlight=white/blue
    set gfxpayload=800x600

    menuentry " " {
    set root=
    }

    menuentry 'Live ISOs' {
    configfile (hd0,1)/iso/livecdimage.cfg
    }

    menuentry " " {
    set root=
    }

    menuentry "Reboot" {
        reboot
    }

    menuentry "Halt" {
        halt
    }

    I have this as a grub.cfg file on my usb drive but it does not load the entire theme.

    Re: Bootable USB and Grub2 dual boot

    Is this a typo or should be two lines?
    theme=/boot/grub/themes/Vimix/theme.txtgfxpayload=1280x1024x64

    theme=/boot/grub/themes/Vimix/theme.txt
    gfxpayload=1280x1024x64

    I have had issues with typos. Computers do not seem to know what I want, not what I type.
