an ad on youtube for a bootable memory stick

i saw an ad in youtube the other day for something that would "speed up old PCs". they showed a USB memory stick and then a boot screen in text mode that looked like a reduced GRUB display. they said it ran in RAM so the device could later be removed and it would keep running. they showed a screen with Open Office on it. i assumed it was a commercial product since it was a paid ad. at the end the domain name shown was too small to read and i have forgotten its name (i didn't pay that much attention at the start and almost skipped that ad). anyone else seen such a thing? could it be running some form of Ubuntu?

it does not say if its a linux distribution or what distro its based on.
I think it looks like some custom variant of linux they put on a usb stick and sell it .

edit: in the video they do say its linux.

Wow. And I've been giving those things away for free all this time.

I hate to be the negative one but you can do the same thing with Puppy Linux and I believe with some other Linux distros using persistence.

Nothing is mentioned about hardware compatibility or lack of hardware compatibility and what about a firewall.

I guess for the unknowing computer user it's cool and would probably be A-OK.

It could have been this one that is a Linux Live usb. But not shure what Distro it uses.

I found one reference to Mint Cinnamon in an amazon description of the product Xtra-PC .

i heard them say Android. when i heard that i thought "must really be Linux". i can't imagine backporting to x86. just use Linux.

they give a choice between 32 bit and 64 bit. hmmm. years ago i made a DVD that would detect the platform and bring up either the 32 bit or the 64 bit system. it sould be doable on a memory stick or hard drive. it has tricks similar to my PC + Sparc CD i made years before that would bring up the correct bootloader based on whether it was booted on Sun Sparc (i had 3 of those at the time) or X86 PC. it was 32-bit only as 64-bit had not quite come out yet.

TinyCore works that way - using a RAM disk. Free. Customizable.
