Question An application tried to run /bin/sh - Am I hacked?

    I'm using Ubuntu 18.04
I started my computer and launched a browser. I was away for 5 minutes. When I came back I was met by a notification that said "Authentication is needed to run /bin/sh as the super user". It requested the root password.
Can it be an attempt to hack my computer?

Is Dropbox running on your system?

Yep, the same thing happened to me. I had files that were owned by a different user.
I posted a question about it which got deleted a few hours after being posted.
I should have looked more carefully before posting, of course, though I'm surprised it was deleted.
