Dlink DWA 182 installed, but no longer enabled

Long time Windows user, but updated an old XP computer to Ubuntu as felt was the perfect answer. Initially found my Dlink DWA 182 C WiFi adaptor didn't work, but using https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2432646 as a guide, ran and installed the driver and the WiFi became alive, but this was short lived. Since then (likely running other updates) WiFi has become disabled again, only option for me to get online is tethering, and this isn't a long term fix,

If I attempt to "reinstall" the driver it tells me already installed and is the latest version. below is the output from the commands I read from the other thread.

After few hours of frustration trying to install driver for dwa 182 r.d, following this thread worked like a charm: https://superuser.com/questions/1330...330483#1330483
