    Question Disapering USB drive

    Hi and thanks for reading.

I am trying to install Ubuntu on a French MAC Air A1465 for a blind friend. I got a 32GB USB key sorted out with Ubuntu and tried following the installation instructions. Got so far as the window titled "Installation Type" The main box shows no options and the dropdown shows "/dev/sda" as its only option. When I try and proceed I get a "no root file system, No root file system is defined., Please correct this from the partitioning menu." msg box.

The USB shows up in drives as FAT32 and mounted at /cdrom
the partition type is W95 FAT32 (LBA) (Bootable)
and I am using default mounting options

I found a suggestion saying to use:
    sudo apt-get install mdadm

But that came to nothing folowing instalation.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get round this?
