Hi found a old ipod device and want to test if it works. It's a 1st generation ipod shuffle (shaped like a chocolate candy bar) and my version is Ubuntu 18.4 64-Bit
No usb response is detected and my laptop has 3 ports

I am from Iceland.
apple has gone out of their way to make sure their stuff only works with itunes. you can try a windows virtual machine for that i suppose. but i'm guessing it won't get farther than that. people have been trying to get apple stuff to work on linux a long time now, all with very limited success if any.
Agree about Apple making it difficult/impossible. I went down that road a few years ago and gave up, but there are music players that play nice with Linux (Google will help find them). I went high end however and now have a FIIO X9 which has spectacular sound, bluetooth, wifi etc.
