Re: 19.10 I have the 8812 realtek driver installed as well as dkms up to date
I just bought one of these little jewels. It clearly states on the back of the box "Compatible with ubuntu Linux".

I followed the instructions at https://packages.ubuntu.com/eoan/all...-dkms/download . Then I did apt update and FONT=Courier New]apt upgrade. That was actually the wrong thing to do at this moment, but it needed doing anyway for other things.

So then I want to install it:

root@jeffs-desktop:~# lsmod | fgrep 8812
8812au 1290240 0
cfg80211 712704 3 zd1211rw,8812au,mac80211
root@jeffs-desktop:~#

I think it's there.
My next step is I am going to reboot and see what happens.
After rebooting, the module refuses to load:

root@jeffs-desktop:~# !1961
insmod /lib/modules/5.3.0-23-generic/updates/dkms/8812au.ko
insmod: ERROR: could not insert module /lib/modules/5.3.0-23-generic/updates/dkms/8812au.ko: Unknown symbol in module
root@jeffs-desktop:~# uname -r

root@jeffs-desktop:~#

At this point, I don't know enough about kernel internals to know how to proceed.
I am fond of telling my students to RTFM. There is a CD included in the box, and there is an install.sh file which invokes gcc (among other things). 2 of the programs do not compile. I am going to send a message to the manufacturer and see what they have to say.
I have an older adapter, so I am not down, but I am running slower than I would like.

Reason: I rebooted to see what would happen.
