Lenovo Z40 Boot Problems Ubuntu 18.04

I need to boot "twice" every time now and I don't know what's up. Here's the behaviour:

1. standard boot sequence...
2. Booting in insecure mode
3. Purple screen
4. wait 30 seconds and hit a key at random
5. Nothing happens
6. Hard Power off
7. normal boot sequence until Grub Menu 2.02
8. Select Ubuntu
9. machine boots/operates normally

I'd just like to be able to boot without the added step. Reboot works just fine. Problem seems to be after power off/shutdown.

After a month or so of this behaviour the problem seems to be resolved. Probably some update.
