Exclamation upgrade to 19.10 failed with "oh no! Something has gone wrong"

My upgrade from 19.04 to 19.10 failed. I have 2 screens. After booting and logging in as usual in Gnome on Xorg, the primary screen is blank, with the message "Oh no! ...". The second screen is normal.
Login in Unity still works, but none of the Gnome or Ubuntu desktop works.
The suggested solutions on internet do not work:
    1. GAD3R says: "remove gnome-session and reinstall"
    2. Zubin says: "edit the file /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf". I even don't have that file on my system.
other things I have tried don't work either.
    Can somebody help?

Reinstall 19.10. It takes 20 minutes and I doubt you can troubleshoot faster than that.

Once installed and updated Ubuntu is robust but upgrades have always been a problem. Go for a fresh install every time.
