Exclamation Can't install WINE on Ubuntu Studio (18.04)

Linux novice here. After doing months of due diligence, I determined that installing Linux may be more beneficial to prevent Windows holding my computer hostage while it does updates. So I installed Ubuntu Studio after watching this video, as one of the main purposes besides avoiding forced updates holding me hostage is to install a stand-alone Adobe CS5 (legally purchased forever licencse) and do graphic design with those apps. Sure I know about and love Gimp, InkScape, and Scribus, but as a professional I am stuck with CS5.

I tried to install WINE following this tutorial but it failed. The errors and feedback I got from Terminal was almost identical to this post: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2408029, except replace "staging" with "stable".

I'm not sure where to go from here. I like the idea of all Ubuntu Studio has to offer, but I'm confused on why it isn't working the way the tutorial from only a year ago says it should. Fun fact: I've almost never been able to get any major Linux project to work the first time, especially Guest Additions in VirtualBox and installing something called "Composer" for sofware development workflow. I follow the instructions to the letter every time. But, there's always something that doesn't go right. How was your first experience like that?

I'm not sure it will help, and hopefully I'm not revealing any passwords or sensitive data, but here is a copy of the commands and feedback I typed into Terminal:

    Code:

    Usage: apt [options] command

apt is a commandline package manager and provides commands for
searching and managing as well as querying information about packages.
It provides the same functionality as the specialized APT tools,
like apt-get and apt-cache, but enables options more suitable for
    interactive use by default.

    Most used commands:
list - list packages based on package names
search - search in package descriptions
      show - show package details
      install - install packages
      remove - remove packages
autoremove - Remove automatically all unused packages
update - update list of available packages
upgrade - upgrade the system by installing/upgrading packages
full-upgrade - upgrade the system by removing/installing/upgrading packages
edit-sources - edit the source information file

See apt(8) for more information about the available commands.
Configuration options and syntax is detailed in apt.conf(5).
Information about how to configure sources can be found in sources.list(5).
Package and version choices can be expressed via apt_preferences(5).
Security details are available in apt-secure(8).
This APT has Super Cow Powers.

You haven't said which tutorial you were following, but your issue stems from adding repositories for the wrong distro, leading to
    Code:
    wine-stable : Depends: wine-stable-amd64 (= 4.0.2~disco)
You aren't using disco (19.04), you're using bionic (18.04). And you definitely aren't using OpenSUSE.

    The instructions are here.

Thanks for your help @CatKiller. I followed the instructions at the link you provided. Here is the feedback I received:

    eric@eric-Inspiron-3531:~$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
    [sudo] password for eric:
    eric@eric-Inspiron-3531:~$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
eric@eric-Inspiron-3531:~$ wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.keyFile ‘winehq.key’ already there; not retrieving.

    OK

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

As you can see, I am following the instructions for "Ubuntu 18.04/Linux Mint 19.x" (Bionic Beaver), yet the install fails saying I have dependencies that depends on elements of "Disco". Not sure if I'm understanding that correctly.

Not knowing how to solve this issue, I pressed on with the rest of the commands:

Re: Can't install WINE on Ubuntu Studio (18.04)

The issue is that as well as having the correct repository now, you still have the incorrect repository from whatever it was that you were doing before.

From your earlier output, you created an erroneous repository entry at /etc/apt/sources.list.d/wine-obs.list. You can remove that with
    Code:
    sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/wine-obs.list
    Then
    Code:
    sudo apt update
should refresh the list of available packages and their versions. You need to run apt update whenever you've changed the repositories, or whenever your list of available packages might be out of date.
