Internal microSD reader not reading 256GB card

I've got a Dell Inspiron and even though its supported, the internal microSD reader is not reading a 256GB card. However, the PC has no problem reading it via a USB card reader. At first, the computer did recognize a card, but later stopped doing so. It was originally formatted in exFAT, which it couldn't read until I installed the proper drivers. The card is now formatted in ext4 and the internal card reader will have nothing to do with it. Does anybody have any suggestion of how to get the internal card reader to read this card, or at least an idea of why this isn't working?
