Notifications (spam): where do they come from?

    System: Ubuntu 18.04 (with gnome)

I continuously get spam notifications (under the clock).

How do I know where those spam notifications come from so that I can stop those? REALLY annoying.

    Thanks

There is a Notifications section in settings (System Settings)
Opening it will list a number of apps which have a notification ability.
toggle those you want off to off.
I'm not on Gnome right now, but there may be a way to just toggle it all off.

Please tell me that Ubuntu 8.04 was a typo for Ubuntu 18.04.

It would also be useful to know what the message say because then you can determine what app they are from or if they are from email, etc. Turning the notifications off will just hide a potential problem.
