Installing lubuntu on an old MacBook Pro

    Hi

First of all: I'm not a technical person. I've been using Ubunto for years, but I usually have someone around to solve serious issues. In other words: Right now I don't really know what I'm doing. Please, bear this in mind when you respond. (Thank you!)

So. I have an old MacBook Pro (bought in 2010). I've downloaded Lubuntu and I've created an installation thumb drive with Etcher.

I've then inserted the thumb drive and started up the MacBook. I can read the thumb drive and I picked the option "Install lubuntu". I immediately got an error message (see attachment). There is a recommendation to go to a website, but how can I do this when I don't have a working operating system?

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Sorry I'm heading to bed, but this maybe worth a read - https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2326770

Also telling us the release of Lubuntu may help, 19.04 uses LXQt (manual can be found at https://manual.lubuntu.me), however Lubuntu 18.04 LTS uses the older LXDE and thus is different to the modern Lubuntu & the new manual won't help you.

I'd suggest using the 'check disk for defects' option first (I think of it as good insurance), then you can always select "Start Lubuntu" which lets you access the web, and use the Lubuntu on the install-media first before clicking "Install Lubuntu" (https://manual.lubuntu.me/1/1.3/installation.html) FYI: if using Lubuntu 18.04 it'll look different to the manual links I provide, but the functionality is the same

Right, sorry. I'm using Lubuntu 19.04.
I've tried the "check disk for defects" but the system shuts down before anything happens.
I'll have a look at the other tread.
    Thanks for the reply!
